Don’t begin SEO before keyword research

I have seen many people do not understand the benefit of keyword research. It is new for startup businesses.

The right keyword research practice saves many hours of your daily work. The wrong selection of keywords generates low quality traffic to your website. The people visiting to your website through the search are not your actual buyers. They are a wanderer who is seeking for information. To targeting them is not the best idea.

Keyword research is the part of data analysis. While doing research you will find bunch of keywords. By using that data you have to decide which of them are relevant to your business. To make your decision perfect there are several tools available online.

Let’s learn how to use these tools.

1] Note down the words / keywords that you are familiar with.

Think like the customer and write down the keywords on the paper that you think people are using in the search for finding the product that you are selling. Don’t worry about the mistake you make in the process. We are going to refine the list later on.

After completing the list start dividing it into short length keywords and long tail keywords.

Now you are done with a basic list of keywords.

2] Find out the competitors in your niche

Go to Google to search the companies which are selling similar products. List the website url in an excel sheet. You have to try different keyword phrases to find the companies.

Now what you have to do is. Browse each competitor website one by one and see what keywords they are targeting in their meta title tag, description and keywords. Make a separate list of these keywords.

We are done here with the secondary keyword research. Now we are prepared with the effective list of primary keywords.

But without analyzing whether these are searchable online, we can’t upload them on the website. To confirm that we are going to use Google adword keyword planner tool.

3] Do Google adword keyword analysis like an expert.

Google adword keyword analysis tool is more advanced tool google have made for users. It is available for free of cost to use, so you don’t have to pay for anything.

All the setting are available on the left hand side corner. To find the new keywords open the form as shown below.

This is the field in which we are going to add all the keywords that we have collected in step 1 , 2.

Then move to the “Targeting field” feature. This selection allows you to choose your targeted market. Select specific market. E.g., United States, United Kingdom etc.

If your targeted market is language specific then select the language from the drop down menu. Keep all other fields as it is and click “Get ideas” button.

Now you will redirected to the statistic page. Go to the keyword Ideas tab.

Your search item shows the keywords with average monthly searches, competition, suggested adword bids and average impression. On the same page in the second fold, Google is giving you more keyword suggestion which are relevant to your search term. These are your keywords that people are searching online to find the product.

Let’s begin finalizing the keywords.

4] Finalizing the keywords that will grow your business.

To determine the final keywords here is the simple step.

– Choose the keywords with more than 100 monthly searches. These keywords must have minimum 3 key phrases / words.
– Record all Medium competitive keywords in a separate list.
– Low competitive keywords are best for using on the blog. So make the separate list to target it on the blog.

The keywords that you have selected are more potential keywords for increasing visitors.

Go to Ad group tab. It shows the ad group that people are using in adword campaign. Chose the keyword from the page and list them in your final keyword list.

Here you are done with the keyword research procedure. You have to target these keywords on your website. Add them to relevant pages of your website while doing on page optimization. Some of the low competitive keywords can be targeted on a blog section.

Keyword research is not the one time procedure. You have to keep your self updated as the market change. Every month you will find new terms and phrases. This needs to be added to the website for better results. So keep looking.
